Segment 2: Crit Nation Feedback: Let’s talk about Blank!

Joshua B.

A character is bleeding to death, unable to stop the magical bleeding (out of healing spells). Can a petrification spell be used to “freeze” the character until such a time as healing is available? Plus the de-petrify of course...also could the same tactic be used in the case of deadly poison or disease, until a cure can be found?

Main Topic: Little Heroes!

Character Concept:

The Messenger. (Little Heroes)

When news needs to travel from one part of the city to the next, speed is of the essence and

small children have a talent for diving in and out of alleyways and can push through crowds with a speed and ease not found in adults. You made a living running all over the city you grew up in, taking orders and news from store to store and street to street.

As a messenger, you are quick of both mind and body and have a knack for remembering

important information. People trust you to keep their messages and deliver them accurately, and you may even have been employed by a member of the nobility or a wealthy merchant to carry their messages from the city’s upper avenues to its underbelly and outskirts.

Monster Variant:

The Twins: Lyn and Fyn

Origin: Manes(two monsters)

These little demons are almost indistinguishable from a small child. They have mastered the skills needed to lead many victims to their deaths.

New Features:

Pack Tactics: The kobold has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the twin's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Assassinate: The twins are at their deadliest when they get the drop on their enemies. They have advantage on attack rolls against any creature that hasn’t taken a turn in the combat yet. In addition, any hit the twins score against a creature that is surprised is a critical hit.

Encounter:

Ghost Girl Encounter: (Anne)

This is an encounter meant to happen between two locations while the adventurers are traveling. At the side of the road, they spot a crying girl who will react by screaming and running into the forest when they approach. This is a tactic to lure them away from the road, where the girl (actually a ghost) can attack and kill the PCs.

Magic Item:

Safety Blanket (Little Heroes)

Wondrous item, rare

When you would take damage from an area-of-effect spell, such as a fireball spell, you can use your reaction to pull this blanket around you. Doing so protects you from the effect of the spell, negating all damage.

Once you’ve used the blanket in this way, you can’t do so again until the next dawn.

Dungeon Master Tip:

Keeping Children Safe

Be aware, that not everyone will be ok with witnessing children come to harm, regardless if its an NPC or PC character. Having a child present, even one that isn’t real, will have a large impact in your game. Make sure to understand how your group feels about such things. While having a child can be a strong call to action for many, there are some who may find it uncomfortable or, possibly not care at all and grow tedious with it. If a child is in your adventure and under duress or is injured, there are plenty of ways it can be handled without getting to gruesome. As a rule of thumb, keep the gory details to a minimum.

Player Tip: Don’t be a Dick

Playing as a Child (Little Heroes)

Making a child character should not be boiled down to slapping a bunch of characteristics

found in mature, grown adults together, and then just putting it in a child’s body. Though children can undoubtedly be clever and charming, it is important to know that they are not just small adults who already know everything there is to know about the world. Because of their young age, they are curious, gullible, be sure to play up and exaggerate these flaws.

Having a low intelligence or wisdom is a great reason to play as a child.
