Crit Academy 300 Episodes! A Long Road!

Starting a podcast is no easy feat. It requires a great deal of planning, organization, and hard work to get it off the ground. One of the most important aspects of creating a podcast is determining the topic and focus of the show. For Crit Academy, the topic was clear - Dungeons & Dragons 5e. As avid fans and players of the game, we wanted to create a show that would appeal to the D&D community and provide valuable insights, tips, and strategies for players of all levels.

Once the topic was established, the next challenge was to find guests who could provide expert commentary and insights on the game. This was no easy task as we wanted to bring on guests who had a wealth of experience and knowledge about D&D 5e. We were fortunate to have interviewed a number of well-known figures in the D&D community, such as Jeff Stevens, Loresmyth, and many others who helped us become a successful third-party publisher for D&D 5e.

We also wanted to bring on guests that were not just experts in the game but also had a unique perspective. This allowed us to bring on guests from different backgrounds and experiences that allowed us to provide a diverse and interesting perspective to the listener.

Once we had our guests, the next step was to actually record the podcast. This was a fun and enjoyable process, but it also required a great deal of preparation. We would spend hours researching and preparing questions, as well as making sure our equipment was set up and ready to go. The recording process itself was always a blast, as it allowed us to connect with our guests and have some great conversations about the game we all love.

The final step in the process was editing and post-production. This was a time-consuming process, but it was also one of the most important. We wanted to make sure that the final product was of high quality, and that it was easy to listen to. We put a lot of effort into making sure the audio was clear and that the content was engaging and informative.

As a third-party publisher, we also wanted to create content that was not just informative but also fun and engaging. This led us to create our own adventures and other products that have been well-received by the community. This allowed us to not just talk about the game but also provide resources for players and DMs.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the podcast is being able to connect with the RPG community and share our love for the game. The RPG community is full of passionate and supportive people who have helped us to grow and develop our podcast. We have been fortunate enough to meet listeners at conventions and other events, and it's always a pleasure to connect with them in person.

Overall, creating and running the Crit Academy podcast has been an amazing experience. It has been a lot of work but also a lot of fun. We are grateful to be a part of the vibrant and growing RPG community and look forward to continuing to provide valuable content to the listeners.

But it's not all serious business, we like to have a little fun too. Like the time Ryan role-played an NPC with a lisp. We were on a mission to retrieve an artifact from a noble's collection and, after some complex reconnaissance, stealth, and bribery, we were successful. But the real surprise came when we learned that the NPC was actually a beholder that had been true polymorphed and was stuck as a human, which he truly hated.

But the real comedic gold came from Ryan's post-game confession. He shared with us on the following episode that after he left the game, he struggled to shake off the lisp. As a child, he had to attend speech therapy in order to overcome it and the experience left him a little bit scared and concerned. After a bit of practice, he was able to overcome it, but it reminded him not to attempt doing a character with a lisp ever again for fear of having to go back to speech therapy.

It was a hilarious and heartwarming moment that reminded us just how impactful a simple roleplaying game can be on a person. It also reminded us to be careful with our character choices, as they may have unforeseen consequences on our speech patterns. But in all seriousness, it was a great reminder of how much fun and how meaningful roleplaying games can be in our lives.

But it's not just about the game itself, it's also about the community. The Dungeons & Dragons community is one of the most passionate and supportive groups out there. We have been fortunate enough to meet listeners at conventions and other events, and it's always a pleasure to connect with them in person. They have helped us to grow and develop our podcast and we are grateful to be a part of it.

Creating and running the Crit Academy podcast has been an amazing experience. It has been a lot of work, but it has also been a lot of fun. We are proud of the content we have created and the community we have built. We look forward to continuing to provide valuable content to our listeners and being a part of the vibrant and growing RPG community.
