DSCRYB.com is an essential website for game masters and players of role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons. The website offers a wide range of tools and resources to enhance the gaming experience, including descriptive text, maps, and even voice-over.

One of the standout features of DSCRYB is its extensive library of descriptive text. Whether you're creating a new campaign or need inspiration for an existing one, DSCRYB has something to offer. The website offers detailed descriptions of characters, locations, items, monsters, and spells that can be used to bring your game to life. For example, a game master can find a detailed description of a dragon that includes its appearance, behavior, abilities, and even history.

The website also has a wide range of pre-written scenes and adventure hooks, which can be used to jumpstart a new campaign or add an exciting twist to an existing one. The scenes are written in a way that is easy to use and are tailored to different levels of characters. For example, a game master can find a scene where players have to infiltrate a thieves' guild or another scene where the players are investigating a mysterious cursed village. To go even further, it includes a sense of feeling. My favorite is a sense of a character's mind being read.

Sense of Mind Being Read

Something isn't right. Your head is too heavy, then far too soft and light. A new presence pulls itself closer, rowing against the current—a stranger’s dirty fingers, probing and pulling and snagging on fragile threads. Then the stranger vanishes. You are alone in your warm, familiar head. Exposed. And you feel like your brain needs to throw up.

Another great feature of the website is its map-making tool. With this tool, game masters can create custom maps for their campaigns, complete with different terrain types, landmarks, and even player icons. These maps can be used to help players navigate their surroundings and can also be printed out for use during the game. The map-making tool allows the game master to easily customize the map and add different elements like roads, rivers, buildings, and even secret paths. Here is a sample scene of a shop that I just fell in love with.

Egwene’s Elixirs

As you enter the shop, the smell of potent herbs, combined with the flowery scents of oils and potions, is an assault on your nose. Your mind tries to sift through the contrasting odors as you view the elixirs, tonics, and tinctures on the shelves. The shopkeeper, a short woman with blond hair—starting to gray—and green eyes, speaks in a soft voice.

Finally, DSCRYB also offers a voice-over feature, which can be used to create immersive soundscapes for your game. Whether you're looking to create the ambiance of a dark forest or the bustling noise of a medieval market, the website's voice-over tool can help you achieve the desired effect. The voice-over feature allows the game master to easily add background noise or even ambient music to the game. But, my favorite part is the fact it contains dialogue for NPCs, including big bad villains.

Storm Giant’s Speech about Namesakes

“The difference between us and other giants is as plain to see as our namesakes,” the giant says. His voice thunders across the great hall, as sunlight from the windows behind his throne shines down on him. He stands upright, his laughter heavy like a torrent, and the light is somehow covered by his silhouette, as though he himself were a storm cloud approaching you. “You may inhabit the hills, harness flames, shape stone, thaw frost. But a storm is not a force your people can control. It is not something you can do with as you please, not something that exists to bend to your will.” The javelin in his hand flashes brightly for a moment, blue-hot lightning coursing through weapon and wielder simultaneously. “There are only two things you can do against a storm: weather it… or die.”

Overall, DSCRYB.com is an excellent resource for game masters looking to take their campaigns to the next level. With its extensive library of descriptive text, map-making tool, and voice-over feature, the website offers a wide range of tools to enhance the gaming experience. Whether you're a seasoned game master or just starting out, DSCRYB.com is definitely worth checking out. Take a look here.

The Feral Horned Catfish is a massive, amphibious creature with sharp horns and fins. It is a formidable opponent, with high hit points and damage resistances, and its water burst and trample attacks can deal significant damage to multiple enemies at once. Its legendary actions provide it with additional options for attacking and controlling the battlefield, making it a challenging and dynamic encounter for players at level 10.

Encounter: "The Vanishing Village"

The players come across a small village that appears to be abandoned, with no signs of struggle or violence. However, upon further investigation, they find that all the villagers, including livestock, have vanished without a trace. The only clues left behind are a strange symbol etched into the door of every home, and a faint, eerie hum that seems to be emanating from the center of the village.

As the players explore the village, they come across a strange portal that leads to an alternate dimension. In this dimension, they discover that the villagers have been taken by a powerful sorcerer who plans to sacrifice them to an ancient, elemental being in exchange for immense power. The sorcerer has been using the symbol to mark the villagers as his sacrifices, and the hum is the sound of the elemental being's presence.

The players must race against time to stop the sorcerer's ritual and save the villagers. They will have to navigate through the sorcerer's twisted, magical traps, and overcome his powerful elemental minions. The final showdown will be against the sorcerer himself, who will be protected by the elemental being's power.

If the players succeed in stopping the ritual and saving the villagers, they will be hailed as heroes and rewarded with valuable treasure. If they fail, the villagers will be sacrificed, and the sorcerer will gain immense power, potentially becoming a major villain for the players to face in the future.

Magic Item: Talisman of the Elemental Guardian

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

This small, intricately carved stone medallion is suspended from a golden chain. Symbols of the four elemental planes: air, earth, fire, and water, are etched into it.

The Talisman grants its attuned wearer a +2 bonus on saving throws against spells and other magical effects that deal with the elements (air, earth, fire, and water). The Talisman has 4 charges, and it regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn.

The Talisman has the ability to expend charges to cast the following spells from it:

Gust of Wind (1 charge)

Meld into Stone (1 charge)

Wall of Fire (2 charges)

Water Walk (2 charges)

The Talisman can also be used to grant resistance to a specific element of the wearer's choice (air, earth, fire, or water) for 1 hour, by expending 2 charges.

Once per day the Talisman allows its attuned wearer to use an action to summon an elemental guardian. The elemental guardian (conjure elemental spell) appears in an unoccupied space within 60 feet of the wearer, and it obeys the wearer's commands. The elemental guardian stays for 1 hour, or until it drops to 0 hit points, and it can't be summoned again until the next dawn.

Dungeon Master Tip: One Unique Thing

One unique thing about 13th Age is the concept of "Icon Relationships." These are special relationships that characters can have with powerful NPCs known as Icons, who are major players in the game world's politics and history. These relationships can range from admiration or friendship to rivalry or enmity, and they can have a significant impact on the characters' actions and decisions.

You can add this concept to your D&D game by creating powerful NPCs that the players can form relationships with. These NPCs can be leaders of nations, powerful wizards, or ancient dragons, for example. As the players progress through the campaign, they can form relationships with these NPCs based on their actions and decisions. These relationships can open up new plot hooks, give the players access to powerful allies or enemies, and add an extra layer of depth to the game world.

You can also create a character sheet specifically for the Icons the players interact with, with their titles, domains, personality, strengths, and weaknesses, and a section for the players to note their relationship with them.

When introducing these NPCs, you can use them as a plot device to create conflicts, challenges, and opportunities for the players to gain benefits and drawbacks. This can also add a sense of realism to the game, as the players will have to navigate political and social dynamics, just like in real life.

Player Tip: Don’t be a Dick: Always be in Character

Staying in character is a key aspect of roleplaying games, and it refers to the practice of assuming the role of your character and acting as they would in the game world. This means not only speaking and acting as your character would, but also thinking and making decisions as your character would, as well as trying to understand their motivations and beliefs.

When staying in character, it's important to consider your character's backstory, personality, and abilities. For example, if your character is a noble paladin, they would likely act with honor and integrity and would be unlikely to engage in thievery or other dishonorable actions. On the other hand, if your character is a rogue, they might be more inclined to engage in trickery and deception.

It's also important to consider your character's emotions and reactions to the events that take place in the game. For example, if your character loses a companion in battle, they might be overcome with grief and anger, while if they discover a long-lost treasure, they might be filled with excitement and joy.

By staying in character, players can immerse themselves in the game world and create a more believable and engaging experience for everyone involved. It also allows players to explore different aspects of their character, and to develop their character's story and personality over time.

However, staying in character doesn't mean that you can't have fun or that you can't make jokes, or have out-of-character moments, it's important to balance the fun and the roleplay. It also doesn't mean that you need to stick to a script, as your character can evolve and change over time, it means that you have a clear idea of who your character is and you act accordingly.
